It’s my birthday today (yes, I’m one of those are very lucky or you can call it unlucky people that happens to have a birthday a mere two weeks after Christmas or not even a week after New Year). Thanks God for letting me see another year and thanks mom for all the pushing! You did well.
When I was little my birthday was all about me, what gift will I get? Who among my friends will remember my birthday? On holidays we used to go to visit our grandmas so always my birthdays were away from where my school friends are. Where I grew up the kids are still out of school at this time. So it was about alll about who will call? Who remembered to sent me a card? But those days are over now. As I grow up I find myself understanding the birthdays are not only about me. The birthdays are not about what gift I will get or who will call me. I think a birthday is a reminder day of showing the sweet appreciation for all that life has to offer and now having a child of my own I think it appropriate to give my mom a little credit on such a day as this. I mean, shouldn’t the moms really be the ones getting the presents anyway? They did all the work!
So please help me celebrate my birthday. For my birthday on Jan 5th, I'm asking that my friends and family join me to support a good dear cause to my heart. Just volunteer your time to be a mentor. Everyone has something to offer to someone else. Your education, your experience and your knowledge is very important and can go a long way. You just don't know how much you can change someone's else life by just giving out your 30 minutes per week. There are children that have so much to offer to our world, but need a helping hand.
So be a MENTOR today..
