The True
Blue is the first novel I've read from this author. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but I was not disappointed.
Aside from repeating herself a little too much and using overly long
descriptions the author does a pretty good job with this book. A story set in Connecticut it follows one family as they learn to live with their choices and consequences. I found though most of the minor characters more interesting than the main ones (Zeb or Rumer)
Full of emotional, heart-wrenching story of love lost and re-found. I was
overwhelmed with every emotion as I read this story -- sadness, anger,
longing, resentment, hope, fear, happiness, and so much more. I
just felt though the 20 years of waiting was too long for the main character to have to wait. She could have gotten married at least and that she fall for him (again) so easily is a little disturbing
The man who loves one sister but marries the other in a frenzy of lust and pleas for forgiveness is predictable but True Blue has a little substance beyond that. "For every heart there is one love, one dream.” this quote is from the book and shows that true love is complicated and powerful. Both Zeb and Rumer think if it's too late to
do more than regret the path not taken--or if every path
leads us back to the one true love of our life . . .
This is a very light, entertaining reading for someone that doesn't want to concentrate too hard on the plot and if you like a good old fashioned romance, where boy meets girl and they
fall in love, this is the story. It was wonderful, and made me to read two her other books (Blue Moon and Summer Light). I am looking
forward to reading more of Luanne Rice's novels before the summer is over.
