Choosing the right pre school for your child

I have been overwhelmed by the materials I have read, people I have met or talked to in person or online, the sites and schools I have visited just to find the right preschool for my daughter. Finally, I have found one. It is Montessori based pre school. I am so happy and I hope that she will get the most out of it.

I must admit that I have learned so much during this process. As I said I have met many parents of children in all types of education system in the USA. In America parents are very lucky because they have the advantage to have all these education options.

Parents can choose either to put their kids in public schools or private schools. They can choose if they want to keep their kids at home and be their sole educator or keep them at home but follow online public school curriculum for free (online public home schooling). Also they have the option  to keep them at home but use online private schools curriculum. This costs money (online private home schooling). The parents I was not able to meet to get their opinions were the parents of the children that are doing unschooling option -The option that parents keep children at home but let them learn through curiosity. (This option is still not yet legal in many states).

I have learned that as parents no matter color or income, we all want what is best for our children. We all want the best health, the best neighborhoods, happiness, high self-esteem, and the best education. It’s true a good education starts with the type of schooling the child is exposed to. The quality of education is set by the quality environment, quality materials and quality teachers. Different parents look for different things in their children's education. Some want socialization or special services while others are looking for small class size and high quality educational materials. Still other parents are most concerned with creative thinking and child-directed learning.

I was not strictly on the things that I was looking for in a pre school but the most thing I wanted the most was the school that promotes creative thinking and the rest of the things on my list followed that.

1. The school curriculum
The daily schedule includes plenty of time for physical activity, quiet time (including regular reading sessions), group programs, socializing, crafts and individual activities

2. Friendliness
Apart from good references and recommendations the friendliness of the teachers and other employees around there in general.

3. Teacher's qualification
I was impressed by the resume of the would be my daughter's teacher. She is a mother of two children and holds an MBA and M.Ed from Columbia university in NY. I was thinking by that credential she could easily have been found a job anywhere but she chose to be a pre school teacher.

4. Class size
They have maximum of 10 kids in each class. They have a teacher and one assistant teacher all the times

5. Low turnover
All the teachers have been in this school for more than 4 years.

Good luck baby girl and may God bless you.....
