When I recently saw this story on Mjengwa blog about a woman who was walking on a street in one small town central highland of Tanzania I was speechless.
This woman was walking on the street minding her own business then a bunch of thugs started to follow her, booed her and almost stripped her naked just because of how she dressed up. I was asking to myself do the Govt concern about women's right? If so do they have the laws about women's right? If they do, do they enforce them? Where is the rights for the women in Tanzania to be able to express themselves?
The last time I checked Tanzania is not a religion country. No one has the right to force one to cover their legs or not. I think that is just doing some other parent's job. I read some of the comments that people left on that post and some anonymous (keyboard encourages) are supporting those thugs' actions and some are saying those are just uneducated thugs. Yes it could be uneducated thugs but where is the Govt? Why do they let these things keep going on and on? If they enforce the law obvious whether educated or uneducated ones will know the consequences of breaking the laws but I don't know if there is any law that condemn these kinds of activities.
The woman below appears to look very sad after another woman gave her a piece of cloth called (Kanga) to cover herself maybe to spare her from more miserable or those thugs were able to get her skirt out and cut it off. It is just so sad.
"On the occasion of the 100th International Women’s Day, the Coalition of the campaign “Africa for women’s rights: ratify and respect!” calls on States to ratify the Protocol to the African Charter on the Rights of Women in Africa." Do these African Governments that still oppress women really listen? And we are still wondering why not so many investors want to invest in our country.
